Last month, I had the chance to photograph a London House Chicago proposal. It was so magical! Sohail had reached out to me to check my availability in October, knowing he was going to propose to his lovely girlfriend, Rachel. While they had talked about marriage on and off, Rachel didn’t know Sohail had been secretly planning his proposal at one of Chicago’s biggest icons, the London House cupola. Known for its regal nature, the cupola sits atop a magnificent building overlooking much of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. London House’s proposal package includes exclusive, private access to the cupola and a bottle of coveted Dom Perignon. I snuck in a bit early to hang out on the rooftop until our designated time. Manny, the escort, opened the sky top door, allowing Sohail to lead Rachel into the cupola. I immediately started photographing this memorable moment. Sohail said some sweet words to Rachel, then bent down on one knee to ask if she would be his wife. Tears began flowing, they hugged, kissed and eagerly laughed. Still in shock, Rachel couldn’t stop looking at her newly ring-decorated left hand as Manny began to pop the Dom Perignon and poured two glasses of the champagne for the two of them to enjoy. After enjoying a few minutes, we began to take some portraits on the cupola. They were able to climb up and look out along the skyline, enjoying the view and their newly “engaged” title. After a few moments, their family came up to celebrate the engagement with them. We snapped a few family portraits then headed across the river to the Chicago Wrigley building for some portraits in front of the iconic golden doors, along the Chicago riverwalk and on the bridge. What a magical time it was to photograph a proposal in downtown Chicago. Congratulations to Rachel and Sohail!
